Search for a ticket by license plate number

You are here: Home / Driving Records / Search for a ticket by license plate number

December 16, 2018 by Adam Smith

If your unlucky enough to have gotten a ticket within the near future odds are you probably paid that ticket directly online.  To search for a ticket by license plate all you need are a few things.  Either the license number, ticket number or license plate number.

It is always important to take care of any unpaid tickets as soon as possible.  Most of the time the person with the ticket will take care of the infraction by either going online and paying for the ticket or over the phone.

Regardless of what method you choose be sure to close any outstanding tickets as quickly as possible.

Start at the state level

Start your search by accessing the official state website.  Example:  If you are in Florida then you would want to start a google search by searching the following term:  State of Florida website.

Change the state to the state your searching in.  You should easily find the state site a way to pay tickets online.  If you cannot find any information within the state level you should move onto the county you got the ticket at.

County-level

Contacting the county court, more specifically the clerk of courts will be the one that can help you find a ticket based off of a license plate number.

Depending on what state you are in you will only have a certain amount of time to pay the ticket, giving the excuse of losing your ticket most likely will not help you so get in gear and take care of any unpaid tickets you may have.

Finding the right county court

It may be that you forgot what county your ticket was in if that is the case you need to find the right county.  To do this you should try checking the online website for the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles of the state your in.  Once on the site, check through a diver license check.

What ticket information should you ask for

Before contacting the county be sure you have questions ready about your ticket.  Here are few questions you should ask:

  • Ask for your traffic violation
  • Citation number
  • Do you need to appear in court
  • Where can you pay your fine

Contacting an attorney for help

Ticket Attorney

If you find out that you have a ticket that needs to be paid you can enlist the help of a traffic attorney.  The attorney can help in reducing or eliminating points on your license.

Depending on your situation you can choose between a guilty or no contest plead and pay the fine.  Or if you feel strongly you were not in the wrong you can plead not guilty and arrange a hearing to fight the violation.

Regardless if you search for a ticket by license plate or another way of taking care of an unpaid ticket is a smart decision.  Leaving these tickets unchecked will only cause you more aggravation down the line.  Either pay for the ticket or contest it, but take care of the issue as soon as possible.
