This guide will explore how someone can register as an individual or as an organization to use the service. If you want to learn more about a person’s criminal past in Massachusetts there are two types of criminal records that can be searched.

The first will be a name-based court assignment records which are also known as the CORI check. These records are maintained and created by the Massachusetts court system. The second methods would be a fingerprint arrest record. These records are formed by police agencies at the time the arrest is made. These types of criminal records can contain data on both state and national arrests.

How to request a name-based record check (CORI Check)

CORI Check System Search

This method is the name based CORI check system that is maintained the court systems in Massachusetts. It is a service of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. along with the Massachusetts Department of Criminal Justice Information Services.

How to get started using the ICORI Check system

In order to start using the system, you would either have to register as an individual or as an Organization if you qualify. Here is how to get started. If you are an individual navigate to the left of the screen that says “New to ICORI?” And click the “Register as an Individual”. link. Click on the link below to get started.

Register as an Individual for the service

You will have to answer a series of questions to register. The regisration is quick. Keep in mind that you need to answer yes to at least one of the registration questions to proceed. Depending on what you answer you will have to provide other information. The next screen will provide what you would need. The most common is open access to request CROI on a member of the public. For this you will need the following:

  • Valid E-mail
  • Full name
  • DOB
  • last six of the social security number
  • Address
  • Phone number.

Once you proceed to input the data on the next screen you will have a chance to verify and then submit your request and confirm the information that you provided.

Obtaining an account on iCORI for an organisation.

In order to register your organization to obtain access to the CORI search system you have to provide certain information. First a category that best describes your organization must be chosen.

Like registering as an individual you will need to provide certain information depending on what type of organization you have. These items will be displayed as you move through the setup wizard to gain access to the CORI check system.

If you have questions about the service provided by the ICORI services you can email them at iCORI.INFO@state.ma.us or you can reach assistance and research unit at 617-660-4640 from the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm EST time Monday – Friday.

How to run a CORI check on myself?

The below guide will explain the process of getting a copy of your CORI by mail or done online. An important note: If you have ever used other name in the past or on any court cases you should list all of your names used.

Getting CORI by mail

Step 1: Download the proper request from. You can download the Personal CORI Request Form directly from the Department of Criminal Justice Services web page. Or if you feel more comfortable calling you can do that also. Here is the number: 617-660-4600 to get the form sent to you by mail.

Pro tip: Print neatly, if DCJIS cannot read your writing they will send back your form.


Step 2: Fill out your form and sign the form in-fort of a Notary Public. Finding a Notary Public is not hard. In-fact someone you know could already be one. So ask friends and family first, chances are they or someone they know is a Notary Public.


Step 3: There will be a $25.00 fee associated with getting a copy of your own CORI report. You can send a money order, bank-issued Cashier’s or Treasurer’s check with the amount of $25.00 to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It must be submitted along with the attached form. This form with payment must be mailed to:

Department of Criminal Justice Information Services 200 Arlington Street, Suite 2200, Chelsea, MA 02150
Attn: CORI Unit

You can expect your CORI report typically within 2 weeks by mail.

Pro tip: Do not send cash, personal check, or business check.

Receiving a copy of your CORI online

If you do not want to use the mail method to receive your copy you can use the online method. To do this go online to ICORI service page. Follow the above guide we have laid out. Keep in mind that the cost will also be $25.00.
