Obtaining Alaska Birth Certificates

In person, you can request a birth certificate from the Anchorage or Juneau offices. There are times that a request made within the offices can be processed even while you wait. Below is detailed information on how to find birth records through the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services


Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Division of Public Health to perform Alaska Birth Records Search

Cost: $30.00

Submitting your request: Print and complete a request form and fax or mail it to the Division of Public Health Office. Walk-ins are welcome at the Anchorage or Juneau locations. Visit office hours and location here. Remember to sign your request and enclose the proper fees along with a picture ID.

Processing time: Regular mail normally takes between 4-6 weeks after receipt. Heirloom request can take 6-8 weeks after receipt. For expedited service, please fill out the birth certificate request form marked expedited service. Then fax that into the Division of Public Health office. There will be an $11.00 fee for expedited request. These are normally processed within three business days.

Fees: If you record is not found there will be a $30.00 fee and retained as a search fee, and a statement of search document will be mailed. The first copy of a certificate is $30.00 and additional copies will be $25.00 for each copy o the same record. A first copy of a heirloom certificate will be $55.00 and extra copies are $50.00 for each. Records requiring an Apostille, authentication for a foreign country have additional fees.
